Care & Storage

Each necklace is handcrafted from natural and antique materials. With the right care, it will last — and deepen in beauty — for decades.

🪙

Antique & Sterling Silver

  • Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth after each wear.
  • Do not use commercial silver polish on antique pieces — it removes the dark patina that gives them character.
  • If tarnished, use a paste of baking soda and water, applied gently with a toothbrush, then rinsed and dried.
  • Store away from rubber, which accelerates tarnishing.
💎

Beads & Semi-Precious Stones

  • Keep away from prolonged sunlight — turquoise, coral, and lapis lazuli can fade over time.
  • Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, or creams — apply these before putting on your necklace.
  • Wipe with a very slightly damp cloth if dusty; dry immediately.
  • African glass beads and powder-glass beads are fragile — avoid dropping or impact.
🌿

Coral, Wood & Organic Materials

  • Coral and wood absorb moisture — never wear swimming or in the shower.
  • Wood beads benefit from occasional conditioning with a tiny drop of jojoba or almond oil on a cloth.
  • Coral is porous — keep away from acids (including lemon juice and vinegar).
  • Store flat if possible — hanging can stress the stringing material over time.
📦

Storage

  • Store each necklace separately to avoid tangles and abrasion between different materials.
  • Use the cloth pouch or box provided, or a soft-lined jewelry box.
  • Add a small piece of chalk or a silica gel packet to absorb humidity and slow tarnishing.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
🪡

Stringing & Restringing

  • All necklaces are strung on high-quality silk, linen, or coated wire appropriate to the bead type.
  • If the string weakens or breaks, contact Dyan for restringing — do not attempt to restring heavy beads at home without experience.
  • Knotted strands between beads are a sign of quality — they prevent bead loss if the string breaks.
